  2. Hello everybody!

  4. First of all a warm hi-five to y'all - it's been some time since I last
  5. wrote to the mailing list, but believe me, I've been paying attention, and
  6. by no means been lazying around doing nothing.
  7.  
  8. Second, a comment about v1.7, which is the last version I've been able to
  9. test, for reasons I'll get back to. I was deeply impressed with it, and
  10. look forward to seeing more version with more features coming up later! I
  11. especially liked the map - when will there be an interactive version, ie. 
  12. one where only the stuff you've actually seen is shown?

  14. But back to the networking.

  16. I've been working my butt off lately, sot eh time spent with my computer
  17. has been less than usual, but the time I spent trying to code some working
  18. networking stuff proved rather fruitful. Although i was unable to test it
  19. in reality, I believe I had the thing working (But being a rather poor
  20. assembler coder, it cost me blood, sweat and tears to get that far), and I
  21. was even working on the idea I had to get more speed out of the MIDI port
  22. - the thing might (Believe it or not!) work at sixteen times the original
  23. speed, giving about 500 kps. Don't get too much of a fuzz up about that -
  24. the speed causes a rather serious loss of transfer quality, but even that
  25. might be circumvented - I have two schemes ready that might allow us to
  26. use an accellerated mode, with error correction, at about four times the
  27. original speed...

  29. In other words, things almost looked like we might have been able to get
  30. the networking implemented within not too long.

  32. Until four days ago.

  34. Without going into detail about the unfortunate incident, I no longer seem
  35. to have a working Falcon to code on. Both my harddisks, the serial comms
  36. port, and minor parts of the motherboard are burned out because a minor
  37. power supply error, which, however minor, ruined my computer. Beyond
  38. repair, I'm afraid.

  40. Of course, this has several bad sides to it. First, I can no longer sit
  41. around during long nights playing games or writing long letters by
  42. keyboard. Next, I have lost lots of source code, which I don't know it I
  43. will be able to restore without a lot of frustrating hard work.

  45. This includes the networking module code for Bad Mood.
  46.  
  47. To me, the greater loss is the one of tha machine itself. To you, it 
  48. might be that code... I don't know.
  49.
